Trump Invites Relatives of Injured National Guard Soldiers to the Presidential Residence
Former President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a Guard member killed last week to attend the executive mansion.
He noted that he spoke to her parents and they were “devastated”.
Background on the Heartbreaking Incident
US army specialist Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a attack on last Wednesday in DC.
Her comrade, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Gatherings across the state have taken place in their memory.
White House Call
The commander-in-chief explained he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both soldiers of the West Virginia Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to honor her,” Trump addressed reporters. “And in the same way with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Public Reaction
Attendees gathered over the past few days at a local school in the state to pay respects to Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the state guard as part of Trump’s government program to support public safety in DC.
Paying Tribute to Beckstrom
“Sarah was the individual that teachers desired. She carried herself with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that lifted those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of her former high school, informed the Associated Press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always willing to help others.”
Memorial plans for Sarah are still being arranged.
Legal Actions and Government Changes
Authorities have indicted a 29-year-old Afghan national with one count of homicide and charges of attempted murder while armed.
The incident led the government to pause refugee claims and cease granting entry permits to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
Condition of the Airman
The airman, a native of the city, began his service in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, per the news agency.
He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s leader Morrisey said on television.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general informed Fox News Sunday that she aimed to visit the family.
Impact of the Fallen Soldier
Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County High in mid-2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a military police officer with distinction, per the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she certainly had bravery,” the governor told the crowd at the service. “Though her life ended too soon, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
