The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Chose the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Track
This latest animated series, the most recent animated adventure from the beloved role-playing group, unveiled a new opening credits. It showcases our favorite cast of misfits, misfits, and rogues fighting hard and taking names, while teasing at several heart-wrenching backstories for characters including the voice actor's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, Fjord.
All in all, the intro appears stunning. However, I felt that something was lost in the song choice.
This sequence employs "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional song created by artist Colm McGuinness. This piece originating from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second release released by the production company's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great nostalgic choice, and I believe that fans of the sequel series will love its inclusion.
Personally, The Mighty Nein's opening fails to capture the excitement and energy that was part of the show's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", composed by musician Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic for me when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it only got better when cast member Sam Riegel added lyrics to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.
Including singing from Ashley Johnson, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the song was memorable and fun. Back then, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series yet, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my device. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an episode of fantasy hijinks.
The Mighty Nein's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the same chords in my opinion. It's an impressive piece of music, but from what I know of the group, I can't help but feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.
Of course, the creators has already said that the series will have some surprises and differences from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its intro appears as among these.
This animated adventure will be available to watch on the streaming service from November 19. If you can't wait before that, or want a head start to get to know the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are available on Spotify and the video site.
