The Hit Drama Confirmed for 7th Season on BBC
The acclaimed police drama AC-12 is officially returning for its seventh season, confirmed by the broadcaster.
An upcoming six-episode series created by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, according to the production team.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together next year."
The last season wrapped up in recent years with a final episode that attracted over 17 million audience members. Rumors about a potential return have been circulating ever since, but official word only arrived recently.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
Series seven will open with AC-12 having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain tasked to tackle corruption within the law enforcement.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, the trio are assigned their "most delicate case to date."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer celebrated for busts of organized crime, is accused of abusing his position to become a offender.
However, his case might serve as a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still operating in the shadows, the teaser hinted.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio said: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had countless fans track the developments of the unit over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a new season."
He added: "Misconduct in the UK was thought to be over while the series was off air, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston described appearing in the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Not only the show's success but the colleagues I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress stated: "It goes without saying I'm very happy Line of Duty is returning! Eager to work with Jed, Compston and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "While anticipating the AC-12 days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming soon."
"Pleased with the news and anticipating those mercurial plot developments."
Show History
The drama premiered in the early 2010s and evolved into one of the most popular TV dramas of the past ten years, attracting notable actors such as Kelly Macdonald.
The BBC has not yet announced exactly the new season will premiere.
The finale of series six drew the long-running storyline about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a conclusion, and the creative team said at the time there were no intentions for additional seasons.
However, the corporation confirmed on Tuesday that a new season is now in development.
