Paceman Gus Atkinson Compounds the English team's Fitness Concerns.

'Serious blow' for the English camp after Atkinson is forced off due to a hamstring issue.

The pace bowler increased the fitness woes of the England squad after leaving the playing area during Saturday's play of the fourth Ashes Test versus the Australians.

Atkinson experienced discomfort in his hamstring immediately following a delivery that he bowled on Saturday.

The touring camp reported Atkinson reported "discomfort" and would spend time on the sidelines for further assessment "during the day".

The final Test in this Ashes battle in Sydney begins this coming Sunday.

England have already lost key quicks Mark Wood to a knee injury and another paceman to a side strain on this Ashes tour.

Matthew Fisher was added to the party to provide backup.

Atkinson struggled during the first two matches, claiming a mere three wickets.

He was left out of the third Test, before being recalled for the fourth Test in the playing XI.

Surrey's Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, claiming a couple of wickets with the ball, and scoring 28 runs while batting as one of just three teammates who passed ten runs.

Post a single over at the end of day one, he resumed on Saturday morning and removed Scott Boland taken by the wicketkeeper.

Unfortunately, on the final ball of his spell, he sent down a variation to Travis Head and suddenly grabbed at his leg.

Gus Atkinson was brought back for the Boxing Day Test after being left out of the third.
