Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for United
The forward, with half a year left on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line
The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be building positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
