The EU might “respond swiftly and decisively” in response to what it deems “unjustified” travel bans imposed by the US on five Europeans involved in combating online hate and disinformation, an EU official has said.
EU Officials Condemn US Move as ‘Coercion’
European leaders such as Emmanuel Macron accused Washington of “bullying and threats”, after the travel bans were placed on figures that were central to efforts to introduce legislation governing US-based technology firms.
“For too long, European activists have spearheaded organised efforts to coerce US companies to punish US perspectives they disagree with,” stated a senior US official in a social media post. “This government will not stand for such actions of censorship beyond its borders.”
