The celebrated British actress Dame Helen, previously holder of an Oscar statuette, four Baftas, Golden Globe wins, five Emmys, along with a Tony Award, is poised to earn an additional major award to her shelf: the DeMille Golden Globe lifetime honor.

Mirren, 80, previously given a damehood in 2003 and made a Bafta fellow in 2014, will accept the accolade at an event on the eighth of January, just prior to the Golden Globes main event take place, during a program described by the Golden Globes as the “Golden Eve”.

This will also include the awarding of the Golden Globes’ Carol Burnett prize for television achievement, the honoree for which remains unannounced. The prior year’s honorees included Viola Davis and Ted Danson.

“Helen Mirren is a force of nature, with a career is absolutely extraordinary,” remarked the Golden Globes president, the Globes’ leader. “Her brilliant portrayals and dedication to acting constantly motivate countless performers and audiences alike. It’s a tremendous privilege to present her with this lifetime achievement honor.”

Notable Roles

Mirren gained prominence during the seventies via important performances on stage in London’s theater district and with the RSC and in cinematic works like O Lucky Man!, Caligula and The Long Good Friday.

During the nineties, her prominent part in detective drama Prime Suspect broadened her fanbase significantly. Additional notable movies feature Excalibur, The Madness of King George, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, Gosford Park & Calendar Girls.

She earned an Academy Award for her portrayal as Elizabeth II in 2006 film The Queen, a character she reprised in 2013 for The Audience, the theatrical work from Peter Morgan about the meetings between the queen and the PM Thatcher, and for which she earned a Tony back in 2015.

Current and Forthcoming Appearances

• Subsequent cinematic works comprise Hitchcock, The Last Station, Woman in Gold, The Debt, Golda & Barbie, which she narrated.
• Mirren’s turn in the streaming adaptation for The Thursday Murder Club has garnered acclaim and awards buzz is building around her performance as a terminally ill matriarch in Kate Winslet’s directorial debut, Goodbye June.
• Next year, Mirren will be seen in the role of Patricia Highsmith in Corbijn’s dramatic film, Switzerland.

Golden Globe nods are set to be revealed on the eighth of December, with Anderson’s One Battle After Another, Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet and Ryan Coogler’s Sinners likely to receive multiple nominations.
