A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.

While perhaps not at the identical stature as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a current administration.

“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”

The event, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The swine, contributed by a first responder, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “6-7” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The craze became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently made “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Future Secured

Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It embodies the character of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Every time, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and cafecito as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
